Groups you encounter throughout the game will only let you ask one question, What's new around the Zone?
You may hear some funny jokes by walking with them, but you can only ask one question and here is the list of answers I got from every group I encountered.
People have all kinds of reason to escape from the Mainland... and then the Zone shows them for what they are, and that's that. They can't escape from themselves.

As far as the local wildlife goes, we're pretty fortunate. What could mutate into monsters here? Boars, dogs... a cat, maybe. Imagine if we had elephants. Or rhinos. It'd be a mess...
